2026 Huntsville Symphony Ball
Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild
Presents the 63rd Debutante Ball
March 31, 2026
Dear Debutante Mother,
The Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild is delighted to have the opportunity to present your daughter at the 2026 Symphony Ball. The Ball will be held on Saturday, October 17th in the Saturn Ballroom of the Von Braun Civic Center. We are so excited that the exceptionally talented Charlotte Wessel of Buckets and Blooms will be our floral designer. Under her inspired guidance, the Saturn Ballroom will be transformed into a magical starlit setting—beautifully capturing the spirit of a Starlight Symphony.
In order for our committee to communicate more easily with you, please go to www.hsoguild.org and select the Symphony Ball Forms under the menu option. Then, from the Symphony Ball Forms, select the Debutante Personal Data Form and complete it as soon as possible. This will enable us to share important information with the Ball Committee for the upcoming Debutante season. Your role is integral to the success of this event, and we thank you in advance. If you have any questions, I can be reached at 256-658-2828 or sam@bentleyauto.com.
The Ball Committee has organized a day of activities for the Debutantes designed to foster an appreciation for civic responsibility and community engagement. The Service Project will allow them to enhance the HSO Third Grade Violin Program as well as provide comfort to pediatric patients at Huntsville Hospital with coloring book packets. Lee Marshall of Kids to Love will give an inspiring and motivational talk during lunch.
We are excited to offer a Debutante season full of fun, educational and social events. Please begin this journey by filling out the above-mentioned forms. Then, start gathering addresses and full formal names of your guests, and look for a white, floor-length gown for your daughter to wear for presentation. Dress requirements are found in your notebook under “History and Presentation, Dress Requirements and Attire.”
Again, thank you for this opportunity to create a special and memorable evening for you, your daughter, family and friends.
Sincerely,
Samantha Bentley

The Huntsville Symphony Ball
Legacy and Tradition
The Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild is pleased to have the honor of presenting your daughter at the 2026 Symphony Ball. The Symphony Ball is truly a magical evening for the debutante and her family. Now in its sixty-third year, the Huntsville Symphony Ball is an integral part of the cultural foundation of Huntsville families and Huntsville history. You are now a part of that legacy and tradition.
~ The Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild
Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild Symphony Ball
History and Debutante Presentation
The Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild presented the first Symphony Ball in 1964. The sole purpose was, and is still today, to increase financial support of the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra.
While in the planning stages, the Guild was approached by a group of people requesting consideration be given to the presentation of Debutantes at the Ball. After careful deliberation, the independent Debutante Board was established. Board members were chosen for their ability to make a fair and impartial selection of young ladies to be presented to Huntsville society and membership has remained secret.
The Symphony Guild neither wanted, nor has it ever assumed in any way, responsibility for selection of the Debutantes. Mrs. John Wallace III, a member of the Symphony Guild and Debutante Presentation Chairman, served as liaison to this board from 1964 through 1975. Mrs. L.G. Rambo fulfilled that responsibility from 1976 through 2002. Mrs. Peter Loftis Lowe served from 2003 through 2015. Mrs. Carl John Gessler, junior assumed this position in 2016.
Dress Requirements for the Ball
The Debutante:
• The debutante’s dress must be white in color (NOT off-white) and floor length.
• Strapless gowns are not allowed.
• Her gloves must be 16-button length white kid.
• Because of photographic lighting, an extra-thick or double petticoat may be
necessary
• She may wear no flowers other than the bouquet furnished by the Symphony Guild.
• Very simple jewelry is suggested.
• In order to avoid duplication, a photo or sketch of the dress with the designer,
model number, and written description should be sent as soon as possible to the
Debutante Presentation Chairman:
Sarah Gessler-- sarahwgessler@gmail.com
Gowns will need to be approved prior to ordering.
The Mother: Floor-length ball gown, not white and preferably not black
The Father/Presenter: Full formal attire: white tie, tails, white gloves, etc. These may be rented locally. Boutonniere is furnished by the Symphony Guild.
The Escort: Same as the father. Boutonniere is furnished by the Symphony Guild
The Marshal: Tuxedo. Boutonniere is furnished by the Symphony Guild

Florentine Gloves
Dear Debutante Families,
Florentine Gloves has enjoyed helping Debutantes and their families in the past, and we look forward to being your source for gloves again this year. We import elegant White Kidskin Gloves directly from the manufacturer in Italy and can therefore offer them at considerable savings. Since 2002, we have been supplying gloves to debutantes and their families nationwide through our website and currently work with over 100 Debutante Balls. In addition to online ordering, we also accept orders by phone and payment with Venmo.
Florentine Gloves offers Silk-Lined and Unlined Debutante Gloves (24”), Short Gloves (wrist-length), Mid-Forearm Gloves (below the elbow) and Men’s Formal Gloves (for Fathers presenting and Escorts). To measure for size, place a tape measure across the knuckles on the top of the hand and wrap it around the palm. Where it meets “in inches” is the size. In the Unlined Debutante Gloves, we also offer Wide sizes which progressively widen from the wrist up to the top of the glove to accommodate muscular biceps. Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild
Debutante Honor Fund
Dear Debutante Mothers,
As you are likely aware, the 2026 Symphony Ball will be held on October 17th, 2026, in the Saturn Ballroom of the Von Braun Center. We are very excited to be able to host this event and look forward to your participation. In anticipation of the upcoming Ball, we would ask that you consider contributing to the Debutante Honor Fund. This fund allows you and your family to celebrate the Ball and honor a debutante or a party host in a meaningful way that assists the mission of the HSOG and the Symphony Ball.
Funds raised by the Debutante Honor Fund help support the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra’s Third Grade Violin Program. This program directly impacts the lives of students in the Huntsville area by supplying schools with violins and instruction. We recognize that music is an important driver in brain development and learning. Through this program, we are able to create opportunities for children in our area to benefit through music. For every donation of $275 or a combined donation of $275, an engraved name tag with the debutante’s name will be permanently affixed to a violin used in the program.
You may honor a debutante with a single donation of $275 or you may honor a group of up to seven persons with your $275 donation. You may also donate in honor of party hosts.
Please use the included form to list the names of the debutantes or party hosts you would like to honor. A beautifully printed and wrapped acknowledgement card will be delivered to the debutantes or party hosts the week of the Ball.
We hope to make your gift giving easier while supporting the mission of the HSOG. Please know that your contribution to the Third Grade Violin Program is a tax-deductible donation to the HSO.
Thank you for your support of the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra and music education. Feel free to contact me with any questions. We look forward to celebrating with you and your family this year.

Donations for honorees that are less than $20 are also appreciated and the honoree will be acknowledged with an electronic message.
Combined donations, per honoree, totaling $275 or more will be memorialized with an engraved tag attached to one of the violins used in the program.

It is customary for the Ball Chairman and the Symphony Guild President to be invited to all parties.

2026 Huntsville Symphony Ball
Debutante
Service Project and Seminar
The Service Project and Seminar is a learning experience to allow the debutantes to cultivate relationships with each other while learning about the Symphony Orchestra and participating in service projects to support our community.
The project will take place on Friday, May 15th from 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Huntsville Country Club, and is sure to be a memorable event for the young ladies as they begin their debutante season.
The Director of Education for the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra will discuss the history of the Orchestra. The Debutantes will learn about the “3rd Grade Violin” program and assist in preparing the violins for the next school year. They will even learn a piece of music to play together! Several young musicians with the Huntsville Youth Orchestra will treat the girls to background music. For the second part of the event, we will have lunch and assemble packets for our “Coloring Book Project”. Our special coloring book depicts exciting places featuring the City of Huntsville and also highlights the Orchestra and its music. The coloring books and crayons will be given to the pediatric patients who visit Huntsville Hospital and the Emergency Room.
During lunch, the girls will enjoy an inspirational talk from our guest speaker, Lee Marshall of Kids to Love. This dynamic speaker and community leader will focus on the importance of young women finding even small ways to help the neighbor.

General Guest Invitation Guidelines
First, please know that there is a difference between general invitations and Deb Table invitations. Deb Table guests are attending the Ball and are seated at your family’s table(s) in honor of your debutante. General invitation guests are friends and family that you want to receive an invitation but they will not be seated at your family’s table(s).
Please follow these guidelines for those invitees who will NOT be seated at your Debutante table(s) but whom you would like to receive an invitation to the Ball.
1. Guests must be at least 19 years old.
a. College friends of the debutante MUST meet this age requirement.
b. Debutante parents are considered each young person’s hosts and are responsible for monitoring that those under 21 (legal age in Alabama) DO NOT consume alcohol.
c. Each table must have someone 21 or older seated there. Ball Reservations and Deb Tables committees assign guests to the tables. Your input as to the adult to be seated with the under-21-year-olds is essential.
2. When inviting sorority sisters and college friends of your daughter’s, check to be sure that they will attend, especially if they will be paying for their own reservation.
a. Submit ONLY those who plan to attend.
b. Submit the address at which she/he will receive mail in early September, when the invitations will be mailed.
3. Include friends and relatives who are NOT to be seated at your Debutante table(s).
4. Be sure to include the escort’s parents, if they will not be seated at your Debutante table(s).
5. In general practice, the Debutante family does NOT pay for these guests.
6. Do not use a Ball invitation as announcement of your daughter’s debut.
7. If you will not have any invitees in addition to your Deb Table guests, please notify the Invitations Chairman that you will NOT submit this form.
Please contact me with ANY questions you may have about inviting your friends and relatives and those of your daughter.
